How can I teach consumer and financial literacy?

Boy with credit cardTo be most effective, consumer and financial literacy should use real-world, relevant, engaging contexts where students can develop and practice their skills, attitudes and behaviours, not just acquire knowledge.

It is advisable to use inquiry-based learning where possible and to teach consumer and financial literacy in an integrated cross-curriculum way. Learning that takes place outside the classroom involving the wider community is useful.

The National Consumer and Financial Literacy Framework outlines the learning outcomes for Foundation through to Year 10. While we are in the transition period to adopting the Australian Curriculum, you will still be linking these outcomes to your state and territory syllabus documents.
